The main goal at BARK is to make dogs as happy as they make humans. They are committed to creating the world’s best experiences and products to satisfy each dog’s distinct personality and preferences through their brands BarkBox, Super Chewer, BarkShop, BarkPark and Bark Retail. The New York-based company opened their customer experience office in Columbus, Ohio in 2015.

BARK has built a business around helping dogs, so incorporating pups into its office culture just made sense.
“Dogs are allowed everywhere,” says Hernan Giraldo, vice president of customer experience operations at BARK. “As a dog-centric company, our employees are not only allowed to bring their dogs to work, but our office space is specifically designed with dogs in mind.”
BARK’s new Columbus office is equipped with floors designed to handle the wear-and-tear of countless paws and with furniture built to ensure the comfort of both employees and their dogs. The space has fenced-in play areas and clean-up stations for accidents.
“Our pet benefits extend outside of our office, too,” says Giraldo. “If one of our dog parents loses a dog, we provide additional support. We strive to be much more than a customer experience team.”
Having a love for dogs is a huge part of why people choose to work at BARK, and the dog-friendly environment has resulted in a positive culture for BARK employees. Employees attribute their happiness and lowered stress levels at work to the dogs that surround them. Even employees who don’t have dogs or choose not to bring theirs to work, see the benefits of the policies. The BARK team says that having dogs in the workplace encourages them to get up from their desks and interact with each other.
Despite the well-documented benefits pets can bring to our communities, many aren’t nearly as pet-friendly as they could be.
Pets are a huge part of our lives. Over two-thirds of American households own a pet, and that number is rising!
